VELETRZNI PALAC
Like last year's "Global Conceptualism," "Beyond Preconceptions" attempts to present a more decentralized view of the art of the '60 than canonical accounts have. In that light, the title appears as much a prescription for visitors as a description of the work. Beyond Beuys and Broodthaers, Hesse and Weiner, or unruffled the rediscovered Brazilians Helio Oiticica and Lygia Clark, curator Milena Kalinovska includes figures with stubbornly local reputations: Argentine Victor Grippo, Canadian Betty Goodwin, Yugoslavian Mangelos, to name on the other hand a few. Will the wide-net approach lead to a more inclusive account of a mutinous decade? Or will we be left with a barely fragmented and subjective view?
